Aristotle’s 4 Causes and Our Human Type of Being

You have attached here two documents. The first is a description of the essay from Dr. Schulz. Your concentration should be on Aristotle’s definition of man, based on Aristotle’s cross-examination of beings and things (Physics, Bk 2, Pt. 3). See the “Mastering Metaphors” #2 on Aristotle’s use of causes to define man and Dr. Schulz’s discussion of it (audio recoording on USE THIS WEBSITE TOO  https://www.whatdoesthismean.org/master-metaphors-of-philosophy [an interview with Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller]. Again this is Mastering Metaphors #2 of 10).
The second attachment is Luther’s Disputation Concerning Man. I have provided you with this document, which we discussed in class, as a theological critique (or better said, expansion) of Aristotle’s very helpful definition of a human being. This may provide you with possible objections or clarity to Aristotle’s understanding of human beings. Remember that Luther, for the most part, follows Aristotle’s definition but questions what we know for certain about human kind of beings.
