EI Leadership Assessment Paper

1. Conduct the EI assessment interview. In addition to the interview questions, students should also ask the interviewee to describe a difficult conversation dealing with their leader and to relate what happened as well as how the situation was resolved. It may be helpful to arrange a time for follow-up questions if needed.
2. Write an EI Assessment Paper (6-7 typed, double spaced pages). Like all formal papers, it should have a meaningful title, an introduction, a thesis statement, cohesion between sections and a meaningful conclusion.
After writing an outline of the paper, double-check the posted grading rubric before writing the actual paper. The paper should contain the following:
a) Based on the interview, open the paper with a short one-paragraph vignette of an interaction between the interviewee and his/her supervisor. (Put in italics at the very top, away from the rest of the paper.). The interaction may be true to an actual event or just inspired by real events. Its purpose is to give the reader an immediate insight into the emotional dynamic between the two people.  
b) Assess the EI of the interviewee’s supervisor. Provide the reader a clear understanding of what EI is, as well as its components, and its relevance to the work place. Secondly, explain to the reader (briefly) the process or approach used to assess or measure the EI of the interviewee’s supervisor. Finally, share the assessment results and their implications. NOTE: Your assessment of each component of EI, and of EI overall, is the central point of the paper. So this is the most important section. The 1998 Goleman article and the EI assessment tool from which questions were developed should be used to substantiate the assessment.
c) Formulate suggestions for improving managerial communication between the interviewee and her or his leader.   If there is no room for improvement, consider suggestions on how the leader’s effectiveness can be replicated or leveraged to further benefit the organization.  The assessment and suggestions should be logically defended using the readings.
d) Don’t forget to write a conclusion that connects to your introduction and thesis. And don’t forget citations.  Every citation should have a page number.
3.  Assess the paper using the grading rubric.  Edit as appropriate.  Proofread and correct any grammatical errors or typos.
