Explain on Change today not only requires more and more creativity but we need to learn how to think from a systems perspective. Burke discussed understanding organizations through metaphors in Chapter 2. This assignment using a biological metaphor is intended for you to start your change journey this semester by having you think creatively about systems and organization.
The metaphor we will use is that of an organism and in particular a biological species. The study of biological species exemplifies structure and process that coordinates all parts of the internal system and evolution in conjunction with the external environment. Many times, the answer to our challenges is all around us but we, as human beings, too often miss seeing it.
Write a paper that satisfies the following:
Analysis
1) Pick one of the following biological species: bees, ants, dolphins or whales. Study the species to understand how they organize themselves, how they communicate, and how they make decisions. Explain this in detail.
Response
2) What did you learn from the species that could improve how human organizations are run?
a. Think about your experience in human organizations and then give at least two specific examples of how you would change structure, culture, processes, etc.
i. Describe each change in detail
ii. Discuss the intended outcomes of the change
The paper should be:
• 4-5 pages in length
• Double spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins
• Title, name and date at the top of the paper
