leadership and management

It is somewhat first instinct to most to think that leaders are born – that it’s a natural ability. Others will argue that leaders are made – that life experiences and knowledge better prepares one to lead, direct and inspire. Maybe one is born a leader, but it takes life experiences and knowledge to become EFFECTIVE as a leader. Colin Powell, former U.S. secretary of state, believes that “effective leaders are made, not born……they learn from trial and error, and from experience; when something fails, a true leader learns from the experience and puts it behind him.” What is the difference between a manager and a leader? How does this statement apply differently to the role fo a manager and that of a leader?
